Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has been ruled out of action for three months with a broken metatarsal.
Gibbs sustained the injury in the closing stages of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League win over Standard Liege.
The full-back was making his return from a foot injury in the game against Liege after initially sustaining a problem on international duty with England's Under 21s.
The news is a massive blow for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as it leaves him short of options at left-back with Gael Clichy currently recovering from a stress fracture to his back.
It means Armand Traore is likely to deputise at left-back for Sunday's showdown with Chelsea at Emirates Stadium.
"Kieran had surgery this morning and the surgeon gave us a good report that he did not need any metal in his foot," saud Wenger.
"The first metatarsal is broken, which is very rare. He will be out for at least three months."
