Lahm slams 'lame' Bayern

Philipp Lahm has described Bayern Munich's current form as 'lame' and 'sick' after another disappointing result at the weekend.Defender admits that the team lack confidence

Bayern were looking to put league leaders Bayer Leverkusen to the sword at the Allianz Arena on Sunday in an attempt to kick-start their season.

The hosts got off to a dream start with beleaguered striker Mario Gomez opening the scoring after just eight minutes. However Leverkusen were level five minutes later and that was the way it remained, leaving Bayern in seventh place, six points behind their opponents at the top.

Lahm has openly criticised the club's transfer policy, for which he was recently fined, but the defender did not hold back when asked about the match.

"When Bayern are seventh, you can see the confidence is cracked," he said.

"We have made too many mistakes and have problems going forward. We have seen that our game is lame and sick."

The poor run of results has seen the pressure on Louis van Gaal increase and the Dutchman voiced his displeasure at his side's failure to score a vital second goal.

Missed opportunity
"We wanted three points because that would have taken us to within three points of the top," he said.

"But we've not been able to do it. We lacked confidence in the first-half, we weren't well organised, and we rode our luck.

"We created a lot more pressure after half-time and we could have scored. But I've been saying this same thing for weeks."

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted that the club was getting increasingly agitated with the team's inability to move up the table.

"We're unhappy, because none of us likes the situation in the league table. The fans don't like it, the coach doesn't like it, the team doesn't like it and neither do we, naturally enough," he declared.

"We need a big win to relieve the pressure, but we've missed out. It was a very good game from both teams in the first-half, but results are what matters at the end of the day and unfortunately, we've again failed to win.

"We need to work with the team and get things moving in a positive direction again. We'll do that and hope it works out."
