Slutsky salutes CSKA comeback

CSKA Moscow manager Leonid Slutsky felt his side were deserved winners as they came from behind to beat Wolfsburg on Wednesday.

Wolfsburg had looked to be on target for at the very least the draw they required to seal their place in the last 16 when striker Edin Dzeko gave the visitors a 19th minute lead

But instead it is CSKA who sit in pole position, thanks to goals from Tomas Necid and Milos Krasic, as they travel to bottom side Besiktas in a fortnight while Wolfsburg host already qualified Manchester United.

Wolfsburg's saving grace could be their better head-to-head record over the Russians after beating them 3-1 in their first Group B meeting should both sides end up on the same points.

But Slutsky is concentrating on the midweek win, one which the CSKA boss felt was fully deserved.

"We won today and still have the chances to go through," he said.

"Before the match we were hoping to earn a better goal difference but now we are happy to clinch a narrow win.

"In December we will depend also on the result of the match between Man United and Wolfsburg but it is anyway better than nothing. Today we played better in the second half and, I think, deservedly won."
