AC Milan will not have the chance to gain ground on Serie A leaders Inter Milan after their match was postponed. The Rossoneri were due to take on Fiorentina at Stadio Artemio Franchi, but heavy snow curtailed the fixture as conditions for fans were deemed unsafe.
Milan are five points behind their city rivals following a run of four wins in five matches.
The match will now be played in the New Year after the possibility of playing it on Sunday was ruled out following a meeting that included the Mayor of Florence and local police.
Saturday's other scheduled match between Bologna and Atalanta was also called off because of the snow and freezing temperatures which have swept across Europe.
The Stadio Renato Dall'Ara clash had been rearranged for Sunday, however, that too has been called off on the advice of the Italian football league.
High-flying Juventus will have the chance to climb above Milan when they play host to Catania on Sunday, should the weather hold off.
