Serie A round-up

AC Milan failed to capitalise on city rivals Inter Milan dropping points after suffering a surprise home defeat by Palermo.

Siena moved off the bottom of the Serie A table, Livorno climbed out of the relegation zone and Lazio also picked up an important win.

Leaders Inter encountered a rare setback in their pursuit of another title after being held to a 1-1 draw away to struggling Atalanta.

Diego Milito fired Inter ahead on 15 minutes following a pass from Wesley Sneijder, who was then sent off for a second yellow card on 65 minutes.

Atalanta made the most of playing against 10 men by snatching a point on 81 minutes through Simone Tiribocchi, although they still drop into the bottom three.

The result was still enough for Inter to extend their lead at the top, though, as Milan were beaten 2-0 by Palermo at the San Siro.

After a scoreless first half, Palermo made the breakthrough on 49 minutes through Fabrizio Miccoli and Mark Bresciano added the second just past the hour mark.

Massimo Maccarone was on target as Siena hauled themselves off the foot of the standings courtesy of a 2-1 home win over Udinese.

Former Middlesbrough striker Maccarone opened the scoring from long range on 66 minutes before Abdel Kader Ghezzal scored in the final minute.

Udinese replied with a consolation in the third minute of stoppage-time when Gaetano D'Agostino scored from close range.

Catania are now bottom of the table after losing 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers Livorno, who are out of the drop zone as a result of the win.

The only goal came from Tomas Danilevicius three minutes from time, just moments after Catania had seen Giuseppe Mascara sent off.

Lazio recorded just a third Serie A win of the season after Aleksandar Kolarov's first-half goal clinched a 1-0 home success over Genoa.

Ivan Juric's header struck the crossbar on 26 minutes for Genoa before Kolarov grabbed the only goal six minutes before half-time.

Juric was again denied by the woodwork in the second half before Genoa had Salvatore Bocchetti dismissed for a foul on Tommaso Rocchi.

Parma tightened their grip on fourth spot in the table after coming from behind to record a 2-1 home victory over Bologna.

The visitors took the lead on 43 minutes through Gaby Mudingayi, but Christian Panucci's header on 57 minutes levelled the game up.

Parma wasted a chance to take the lead on 73 minutes when Nicola Amoruso missed from the penalty spot after Miguel Britos had been sent off for bringing down Blerim Dzemaili.

However, Amoruso made amends four minutes from time as he scored from close range after being teed up by Cristian Zaccardo.

Chievo Verona were another team to overturn a deficit at home after claiming a 2-1 triumph over Fiorentina.

Riccardo Montolivo gave Fiorentina a fifth minute lead, but goals from Giampiero Pinzi and Gennaro Sardo had Chievo in front before half-time.
