Aston Villa held draw by 10-man Manchester United

Aston Villa held 1-1 by 10-man Manchester United at Villa Park, after early red card for Nani.

Portuguese winger Nani was shown the red card by referee Peter Walton in the 29th minute at Villa Park after a lunge on opposing skipper Stiliyan Petrov.

Villa took a deserved lead after 19 minutes when Carlos Cuellar headed home after United failed to deal with Stewart Downing's dangerous cross.

The lead only lasted four minutes, however, as United were helped by yet another own goal - James Collins deflecting the ball in from close range after Ryan Giggs volleyed Nani's ball across goal.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, United were the better side and were inspired by another virtuoso display from Wayne Rooney, who covered every blade of grass at Villa Park to compensate for Nani's loss.

Villa threw on John Carew in the second half but United fought hard and were good value for a point - indeed, they could have come away with the win.
