Juventus lost further ground on Serie A's leaders as they were held 1-1 away to lowly Livorno.
With late goal Palermo beating Parma earlier in the day, the pressure was on for interim boss Alberto Zaccheroni to match their result.
And their chances of doing so took a knock early on as midfielder Antonio Filippini gave the hosts a 26th minute opener.
The giants from Turin looked set to recover from the set-back after defender Nicola Legrottaglie evened up the contest three minutes before the break.
Juventus, however, could not break down Amaranto again and were forced to settle for a point, keeping them behind Palermo in sixth position.
With fourth-placed Napoli travelling to struggling Udinese on Sunday, the Old Lady may yet find themselves further from the coveted UEFA Champions League positions.
Sampdoria will also have one eye on leap-frogging Juventus as they travel to basement club Sienna on Sunday and a win would see them take over sixth spot.
