John Terry has thanked the Chelsea fans for the way they supported him on what he called "a really emotional day" during his first match at Stamford Bridge since losing the England captaincyThe centre-half received a positive reaction from the Chelsea fans throughout the 2-0 win over title rivals Arsenal and he has thanked the club's faithful for their support.
Terry, who had an affair with ex-girlfriend of Wayne Bridge, had been replaced as England captain on Friday by Rio Ferdinand following a meeting with Fabio Capello that lasted only 12 minutes.
"It's been an emotional day for myself and how the fans have been with me over the last two weeks has been quite incredible.
"I didn't expect that today and I would like to thank every single individual fan for the way they treated me.
"It was a great performance and, I mean it from my heart, I would like to thank everyone."
The 2-0 win put Chelsea back on top of the Premier League, with Terry adamant that the title was now in their hands.
"The league is ours to win and for everyone else it's only for them to take away from us," he said. "Our home form has been phenomenal this season. The draw with Everton was the only time we've dropped points. It's the basis of why we've topped the league for long spells this season, and that's how it's been for the last few years.
"If we have the right mentality and produce the Chelsea form, we will beat anyone at home, as we have shown this season against Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool and so on."
The Football Association, meanwhile, has confirmed that it will not be launching an investigation after a flare was lit in the Arsenal end at Sunday's game. An object appeared to be thrown on to the pitch from the same section, but neither incident was included in the match report of referee Mike Dean.
