Fabio Capello broke his silence on the John Terry scandal on Monday as the Football Association insisted the Italian alone will decide the future of the England captain.
Informal talks have already taken place between Terry and a senior FA official - when Terry was advised not to rush into a decision - and Capello said he will address the situation when he returns to London on Thursday. Terry expects to meet the England manager face to face before a decision is reached.
Some Manchester City aces wore 'Team Bridge' vests on Sunday in support of their pal.
But City's England men were not among them and a 'Team Terry' was starting to emerge last night.
Terry held a heart-to-heart with a senior member of the England management team on Sunday and has not ruled out offering to resign.
But the question now is: Can he still command total respect in the dressing room and on the field?
Capello, speaking from his home in Switzerland, said: "I know everything. I can't say anything at the moment but will be back in London on Thursday."
The pair are to meet at the end of this week - the Italian wants the matter resolved before he heads to Sunday's Euro 2012 draw in Warsaw.
Capello spoke to both FA chairman Lord Triesman and Ian Watmore, the FA chief executive, and received their total support in being allowed to make a decision on Terry’s future on ‘footballing grounds’ alone.
An FA insider said: ‘Fabio likes him as a player and as a skipper because his attitude has been perfect. But he also has to consider all the factors before making a decision. He does not feel under pressure to make that decision, though, because he is used to pressure.’
In a statement on Monday, an FA spokesman said: ‘Fabio is fully up to speed with developments regarding John Terry. Fabio is dealing with the matter in his own way using his extensive experience as a football manager.’
The England players will accept whatever Capello decides - but hope he will forgive and forget.
Meanwhile, his former lover, Vanessa Perroncel, is in talks with the publicist Max Clifford, and Terry is battling to stop any further revelations from being published.
