European colossus Real Madrid smashed out of the Champions League at the first stage of direct elimination for the sixth year in a row after held a draw with Lyon.
The French side were one goal in advance after the first leg but Cristiano Ronaldo recovered equality after just six minutes from the beginning following Guti's accurate pass.
El Clasico then commanded the first half and Gonzalo Higuain smash the post after rounding Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris.
But the French team came out another side in the second half and fairly scored through Miralem Pjanic in 75 minutes to march on into the quarter finals after 2-1 on aggregate.
Real Madrid knocked out for the sixth season in a row at this stage of the competition.
With this year's final of UEFA Champions League being staged at the Bernabeu, Madrid side had high expectation of gaining that showpiece and the post-mortem in the Spanish capital will absolutely leave coach Manuel Pellegrini under big pressure.
It would have been a another story, though, if Madrid had not been so wasteful in the opening phase, with Higuain the chief culprit.
