Palermo have moved swiftly to appoint Delio Rossi as their new coach following Walter Zenga's dismissal.
The Serie A outfit decided a change in the dugout was required following a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Catania on Sunday.
That result left the club 12th in the Italian top flight, with a bright start to the season nothing more than a distant memory.
Zenga ultimately paid the price for the recent failings, with ex-Lazio boss Rossi chosen as the man to steady the ship.
"The coach has signed a contract until 30th June 2011, with an option for the club to extend the contract for a further campaign," read a statement released by Palermo.
"Rossi will be unveiled to the media tomorrow morning (Tuesday)."
Unexpected
Zenga had only been in charge of the Sicilian giants since the summer, and admits he was disappointed to have been so little time in which to make an impression.
"I honestly didn't expect this," said the former Italy international goalkeeper.
"I am extremely disappointed but I don't want to talk in the heat of the moment.
"I spoke to Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini this morning (Monday) but I will speak to the press on Wednesday."
