Schalke move to the top of the Bundesliga

Schalke 04 move to the top of the Bundesliga on Friday with a 2-1 success over Stuttgart.

They leapfrog Bayern Munich, who have a game in hand, and standing on top with 54 points.

After a peaceful first part, in which Kevin Kuranyi rejected the best chanse to break the goalless draw, Brazilian Edu put the hosts ahead since after the start of the second part when he benefited on a defensive mistake from Serdar Tasci.

The hosts, who have won eight games in a row at home ground, kept up the pressure and their effort was rewarded on 56 minutes when Kuranyi scored his 14th league goal of the season.

The Germany international, who is hoping to be involved a German squad for World Cup finals this summer in South Africa, already joins Bayer Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling at the top of the Bundesliga goal-scorer.
